The first three were taken in Throckmorton, TX, and feature the art work of Joe Barrington.
His sculpture was temporarily set up down the street from Grandmother’s house.
You can see more of his work at www.redstarstudio.com.

Big blue pill box. Fully functional with Plexiglas dividers and oversize pills.
Sadly the durn thing was too big to get more pics in the school studio. Will have to add more at a later date.
This was another attempt to equate an object’s scale to it’s personal importance.
Don’t forget your meds, y’all.

These carvings were based on a distorted self portrait.
Both items were carved from freshly set plaster, allowing for easier carving and the creation of a big mess.

Surreal Self Portrait 1 & 2
Plaster Carvings

The smaller nose was carved from a Solo cup sized chunk, and the larger one from a gallon milk jug.
Mrs. G (I dont think she likes it when I call her Mrs G) says I should move onto carving stone for my final project, but i really like working with plaster.
We have also been working with clay. Working with clay was ok, but messier than i care to deal with. I felt like I had to stop to wash my hands every five minutes.
Next is wire sculpture.
love,
serge

i finished my assigned scupture a class or two ahead of schedule, so Mrs Garrett (that’s her name) told me to make a bonus item.
and here he is:

based on Greg Brady’s mystical necklace, but a little bit self-portrait (check out that pomp!)
We have moved on to the next project, so I dont know when I will finish him, but it is just as well – the entire time I was carving, I would stop every few minutes to yell “OOGA-BOOGA!” a la Crash Bandicoot.
I dont think the rest of the class approved. they’re all Serious and Quiet – what’s up with that?
here is the Imaginary Museum Placard (IMP):
